Meran celebrates its 700 years
On the occasion of its 700th birthday Meran celebrates with a weekend rich in culture and arts with a great number of free events promoted by various parts of the city.
On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26 March 2017 music, dance and art liven up the city with a unique show; a trip into the history for South Tyrol city that reveals unknown treasures such as theatre costumes of Puccini Theatre that are presented by Sabine Hillebrand; or the touching visit to the executioner’s room at Porta Bolzano , one of the historical city doors; or also the discover of Portici wine cellars where you can also try a glass of anniversary wine for free and much more.
Lastly, every good celebration needs some entertainment and a full glass. The latter is offered by the students of the training schools for the hotel trade of Meran who prepare a nice aperitif for the visitors and also organise an exhibition that tells the history of the city.
As for arts you are spoilt for choice. Music lovers can listen to a great number of concerts with different styles performed by the music schools of the city in outstanding places such as Castello Principesco, or the wonderful Kurhaus rooms or the Palais Mamming. Moreover, the wonderful Kursaal hosts the charming dance performances of associations from Meran: Arabesque, Centro Studi Palladio and Only Dance. Last but not least cinema with ‘Ciak a Merano’ is a must see of the event: various directors from Meran tell the history of the city throughout the centuries.
