Nordic walking in Meran
Nordic walking is a sport activity performed with specially designed walking poles similar to ski poles and involves applying force to the poles with each stride.
This sport provides numerous benefits because makes you use at the same time a lot of muscles groups such as chest, latissimus dorsi muscle, triceps, biceps, shoulder and abdominals that may result in significant increases in muscle strength, resistance as well as heart rate, improving aerobic capacity and helps to increase energy consumption, so that the body is lighter on knees, hips and ankles.
The rhythmic cadences of the arms and legs moving alternately is very similar to that of power walking. Until 1997 it was considered an off-season ski-training activity. Only in 1999 the term ‘Nordic Walking’ was coined and popularized and the sport has been acknowledged worldwide.
One of the next events in Meran, on 23rd of February from 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., are touring Nordic walking lessons for enthusiasts that take place in a natural environment.
